Composition
The leaf contains vitamins, flavonoids, organic acids, amino acids, fatty acids and minerals. Content varies with harvest and drying conditions, so the parameters that apply to your order are the ones stated in the batch Certificate of Analysis. Particle size and bulk density are matched to the intended application.
Animal Nutrition Use
For equine use, the product is normally introduced over a short loading period and then added to the daily feed ration. Typical guidance is an initial loading period followed by a maintenance amount added to the usual ration; the exact inclusion rate should be set by a nutritionist for the individual animal and matched to the rest of the ration.
Whatever the inclusion rate, daily fibre intake should be maintained at 1-2% of body weight, so a 500 kg horse should receive a minimum of 5 kg of fibre per day. Horses stabled continuously should have free access to one, ideally two, sources of fibre and to clean water. A horse in hard work needs roughly 10-15 gallons of water per day to stay adequately hydrated.
