Sea buckthorn berry powder is produced from the fruit of Hippophae rhamnoides and supplied as a powder for beverage, food and nutritional applications. The berry is notable for its vitamin content and for the breadth of its nutrient profile.
Composition
The fruit contains natural vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and vitamin B6, together with sea buckthorn polysaccharides, sea buckthorn flavonoids, vitamin P, carotenoids, phytosterols, phospholipids, unsaturated fatty acids, organic acids and carbohydrates. It also contributes protein and amino acids, and trace elements.
Both the vitamin content and the carotenoid content are sensitive to harvest timing, drying temperature and storage, so the parameters that apply to your order are the ones stated in the batch Certificate of Analysis. Buyers specifying a vitamin C level should state whether the value is on an as-is or dry basis, because the two differ once moisture is accounted for.

The two sea buckthorn ingredients are not the same
Sea buckthorn is supplied in three commercially distinct forms, and they are frequently confused in enquiries. The fruit powder is the whole dried fruit, milled. Sea buckthorn oil is pressed from the seed or the pulp and is a liquid ingredient with its own fatty acid specification. Sea buckthorn leaf material is a separate raw material used mainly in animal nutrition and in tea formats. A specification that says only "sea buckthorn" does not identify which of the three is being quoted, and the three are not interchangeable in a formulation.
Research status
Sea buckthorn fruit and its fractions are studied as sources of vitamins, carotenoids and flavonoids, and the published literature includes compositional analyses, in-vitro work and animal models. These are research findings about a food material and its fractions; they do not establish a health effect in humans and do not support a disease-related claim on a finished-product label. Buyers should review the permitted claim language of the destination market before writing label copy.
Applications
Sea buckthorn berry powder is used in powdered drink mixes, beverage bases, dairy products, confectionery, bakery and nutritional formulations, and is also used as a natural colour and flavour contributor. Particle size, carrier system and moisture specification are matched to the dosage form and to the labelling requirements of the destination market.
