A recent study published this October in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences provides new insights into curcumin's ability to delay aging. It is well known that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are widely found in the bone marrow, and that most of the body's tissue homeostasis depends on the spinal cord, so biological aging and the development of chronic diseases associated with aging are mostly caused by the aging of MSCs. In this study, curcumin restored the inhibited autophagy in bone marrow MSCs while ameliorating the senescence of bone marrow MSCs.
A closely following study published by Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine similarly demonstrated its aging-delaying benefits, except that this time, curcumin was combined with aspirin in a Cryptobacterium hidradenum model. The data showed that the combination of the two enabled the activation of antioxidant gene expression in Cryptobacterium hidradenum and delayed aging in the model animals.
In other words, curcumin has potential in preventing and delaying aging, and although clinical evidence is lacking, curcumin has been widely used to alleviate various human diseases, and its anti-aging properties are just the icing on the cake. In fact, nowadays anti-aging research has become more and more mature, spermidine, metformin and other substances have long been firmly established in the top stream position of the anti-aging circle, turmeric's anti-aging strength is actually how, pending subsequent research evidence.
