Sunflower lecithin powder is the functional raw materials for brain health?

May 13, 2022

Sunflower lecithin is a kind of phospholipid abundant in sunflower seeds. To obtain the lipids, the seeds are dehydrated and processed to separate out the oil, glue and other solids. Phospholipids are derived from adhesive by-products of this process. Nutritionally, it is an emulsifier that gives foods a creamy, moist and smooth texture, and is therefore often used in the manufacture of chocolate, margarine and baked goods.

Sunflower lecithin is generally organic and not genetically modified. The processing of sunflower seed lecithin does not use chemical solvents but uses the normal cold-press process, so there is no chemical contamination.

The brain is one of the most complex systems on earth. The brain inevitably ages to some extent as we get older. At present, China has 250 million people over the age of 60 and 100 million Alzheimer's patients, all of whom have an urgent demand for brain health-related products. In order to alleviate the diseases caused by the aging brain, more and more people are paying attention to how to help the brain recharge through diet, health care and other ways.

The huge market demand for brain health products provides the driving force for the research and development and production of brain health raw materials enterprises. So, with the rise of the brain health market, what are the brain health functional materials worth our attention?

01 Saffron extract

The mood-relieving and anti-anxiety effects of the saffron extract have been demonstrated in more than 10 clinical trials. A clinical study found that a daily intake of 28mg of saffron extract reduced adverse emotions associated with stress and anxiety.

02 Ginkgo biloba leaf extract

Ginkgo biloba extract is currently the most widely used ingredient in brain health supplements. Ginkgo biloba extract has been shown to improve memory and concentration by improving blood circulation in the brain and regulating the tension and elasticity of blood vessels in the central nervous system. In addition, ginkgo Biloba extract can increase the sensing speed of the nervous system and speed up the information processing process in the brain.

03 Spearmint Extract (Rosmarinic Acid)

Clinical studies have shown that the compound polyphenols in the extract of Cymbidium spp. can improve memory by crossing the blood-brain barrier. A randomized clinical trial of Neumentix spearmint extract found that compared with the placebo group, subjects receiving 900mg of spearmint extract daily performed significantly better on priority tasks, with an 11% increase in sustained attention to work compared to baseline.

04 Sunflower soft phospholipid

Sunflower lecithin is a rich source of lecithin found in sunflower seeds. Although soy is a major food source of lecithin, sunflower seeds are preferred by people concerned about soy's allergenic effects. Replenish lecithin, can make the brain nerve get nutrition supplements in time, maintain a healthy working state, and improve the irritability and insomnia caused by nervous tension.

Japan has approved sunflower lecithin as a food additive, with Cargill Topcithin sunflower lecithin becoming the first product to receive such approval.

So far, Japan is the only country in the world that has not approved sunflower lecithin for food. Cargill Topcithin Sunflower lecithin can be used as an emulsifier and water-retaining agent in a variety of foods such as confectionery, especially chocolate, bread and convenience foods.

Cargill says the product has better dispersion than soy lecithin and has better function, taste, and color.
