More information about Raffinose

Apr 08, 2019

Raffinose is one of the most well-known trisaccharides in nature. It is composed of galactose, fructose and glucose. It is also called melitriose and melitriose. Raffinose is a functional oligosaccharide with strong proliferation of bifidobacteria.

Cottonseed sugar widely exists in natural plants, and cottonseed sugar is found in a variety of vegetables (cabbage, broccoli, potatoes, beets, onions, etc.), fruits (grapes, bananas, kiwifruit, etc.), rice (wheat, rice, oats, etc.) and seeds of some oil crops (soybean, sunflower seeds, cottonseed, peanut, etc.). The content is 4-5%. One of the main functional components of soybean oligosaccharides, known as functional oligosaccharides is raffinose.

Character

Raffinose is a pure natural functional oligosaccharide extracted from plants (sugar beet molasses or cottonseed) by physical extraction. Cottonseed sugar is white or light yellow crystalline powder, soluble in water, slightly soluble in polar solvents such as ethanol, insoluble in non-polar solvents such as petroleum ether. The melting point of anhydrous raffinose is 118-119 C. Generally, crystalline water with 5 molecules is lost when heated slowly at 100 C. The specific optical rotation [alpha] D of aqueous solution is + 105 degrees. The melting point of raffinose with crystalline water is 80 C.
